From Kasarani to the World: Our Gothia Cup Journey
Transformative Journey: Firsts, Lessons and Growth
For many of these talented players, it was their first time traveling outside Kenya, their first time on an airplane, and their first opportunity to test their skills against an international field of peers. This journey began with the tangible milestone of obtaining their very first passport and visa, documents that symbolized a door opening to a wider world. This was followed by the awe-inspiring experience of their first flight, soaring high above the clouds. Upon landing, they encountered their first immersion into a climate and culture strikingly different from their home in Kasarani, a sensory lesson in global diversity. Most significantly, they shouldered the honor and responsibility of representing their community and country on an international stage for the very first time. These collective firsts translated directly into invaluable life lessons that extend far beyond the pitch. Navigating a new country fostered a tangible sense of independence and cultural intelligence, expanding their global awareness. The experience of being away from home in a high-pressure environment accelerated their maturity and personal resilience, building unwavering self-reliance. The shared journey, from long travels to the tension of competitive matches, forged an unbreakable brotherhood and deepened team cohesion. Ultimately, witnessing the pinnacle of global youth football firsthand planted a seed of inspiration, setting a powerful new benchmark for aspiration and dedicated hard work that they now bring back to inspire the entire academy in Kasarani.
Here at the Talanta Africa Football Academy (TAFA) in Kasarani, we believe football is more than a game—it’s a vehicle for transformation, a classroom without walls, and a bridge to worlds beyond our village. In July 2025, that belief was spectacularly vindicated when our Under-16 team embarked on a journey of a lifetime to the hallowed grounds of the Gothia Cup in Sweden. This monumental achievement stands as a beacon of what is possible when talent meets opportunity, community support, and unshakeable determination.
From the vibrant fields of Kasarani to the world-renowned pitches of Sweden. Our TAFA Under-16 team, comprised of 19 dedicated youths and led by the visionary Coaches Sammy and Alex, achieved a historic milestone: representing our academy and community at the Gothia Cup. The Gothia Cup, often called the "World Youth Cup," is the largest and most prestigious youth football tournament on the planet comprising of 190 elite teams from 29 different nations, For our boys to walk into the opening ceremony at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, alongside tens of thousands of young athletes from every corner of the globe, was an overwhelming and surreal moment. The scale of the event—a true festival of football—immediately impressed upon them the magnitude of what they had achieved.
“Seeing the boys’ eyes light up when they walked into the stadium... that was the victory. They understood in that moment they belonged on the world stage. The football was important, but the change in their confidence is permanent.”
The Foundation of This Dream: Our Generous Donors
This journey was more than a competition; it was a transformative experience made possible entirely by the unwavering generosity of our donors. Every flight ticket, kit, meal, and accommodation was covered by the incredible generosity of individuals and organizations who believed in our vision. We extend our most profound and humble gratitude to every single donor who contributed to the "Road to Gothia" campaign. You did not merely fund a football trip; you invested in the character and future of 19 young men and planted a seed of infinite possibility in the heart of our entire academy. You are the true champions of this story.
